Background

Finding the right counsellor can feel overwhelming, and I’m really glad you’ve taken this first step toward your healing journey. My name is Linh Nguyen (she/her), and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with Avery Therapy Centre. A little bit about me—I was born in Russia, raised in Vietnam, moved to Winnipeg for my bachelor’s in psychology, and now call Vancouver home. Growing up across very different cultures has deeply shaped how I relate to identity, community, a sense of belonging, and the uncertainty that often comes with finding our place in the world. This personal journey led me to study psychology; driven by a desire to better understand why we are the way we are.

Before working as a therapist, I worked in community and residential support settings, supporting individuals facing mental health, physical health, neurodivergence, and substance use challenges. My work was deeply fulfilling, but I often found myself wanting to do more—to understand more, to connect more meaningfully, and to support lasting change. That desire led me to pursue my master’s in counselling, and returning to work with a similar population during my practicum—this time as a counsellor—felt like a true full-circle moment. I bring all of this with me into therapy, creating a space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported.

Therapeutic Approach

I believe that change, growth, and healing are possible for everyone. My approach is holistic, client-centred, strengths-based, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed. I primarily draw from Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy (STST) and the person-centred model. Grounded in a humanistic and positive perspective, I work collaboratively with you to uncover the strengths and survival patterns that have helped you get here – then tap on the internal resources you already hold to navigate life’s challenges. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and I’m honoured for the opportunity to walk alongside you as we find what works best for you—based on your needs, goals, and unique story. In our work together, you can expect a gentle, non-judgmental, and inclusive space—like a warm hug for your inner child—where all parts of you are welcome. I believe that while our past shapes who we are, it does not define who we can become. Together, we’ll explore how your experiences have impacted the way you see yourself and relate to others. With care and curiosity, we’ll shift unhelpful patterns and reconnect you with a deeper sense of choice, clarity, and self-worth. You are the author of your story—and you have the power to write the next chapter. I offer service in both English and Vietnamese.
