Lillian Huynh

Background
Taking the first step toward counselling can be one of the most powerful—and sometimes most vulnerable acts of self-care. I’m Lillian (she/her), a Clinical Counsellor (RCC) dedicated to creating a space that feels safe, affirming, and grounded in compassion. My work is shaped by both personal and professional experiences and is rooted in a trauma-informed, strengths-based perspective with cultural humility at its core. I was born in Norway and immigrated to Canada as a child, and I carry with me a deep appreciation for the stories that shape who we are—across cultures, generations, and identities. My path into counselling grew from a long-standing curiosity about people and relationships. I completed a Bachelor’s in Psychology at Simon Fraser University, followed by a Master of Counselling from City University of Seattle.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a Behaviour Interventionist, supporting children and youth on the autism spectrum with emotional regulation, social skills, and independence. I also volunteered with Kids Help Phone as a crisis line responder, where I supported both youth and adults through moments of distress and uncertainty. These experiences shaped my deep respect for trust and genuine connection in therapeutic work. Outside of counselling, you’ll usually find me watching reality TV, checking out new food spots in the Lower Mainland, hanging out with my two dogs, or spending quality time with loved ones. I try to bring that same sense of presence, and authenticity into my work with clients.
Therapeutic Approach
At the centre of my practice is the belief that every person deserves to be met with warmth, curiosity, and respect—exactly where they are. I take an integrative approach to therapy, meaning the tools and techniques I use are thoughtfully chosen based on what best fits each person I work with. Some of the evidence-based modalities I often draw from include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I work through a multicultural, neurodiversity-affirming, and anti-oppressive lens to help clients feel seen and supported as
they move toward healing and self-understanding.
Therapy with me is collaborative and grounded in your voice. I also recognize the importance of holistic health and, when helpful, work alongside families and professionals to support continuity of care. I’m familiar with wraparound principles and case coordination, and I’ve partnered with educators, social workers, and allied health providers to ensure stability and consistency for the people I support. It takes courage to begin this work, and my goal is to offer a space where you feel truly heard and empowered—to explore your story in a way that feels right for you.
