Shelby Rogers (she/her)
Background
My name is Shelby Rogers (she/her) and I am an Intern Counsellor at Avery Therapy Centre. I have a Bachelor of Art’s degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and I am currently pursuing a Master of Counselling degree at City University. I have had a variety of work and volunteer experiences in the mental health field, both in clinical settings and research settings. I am eager to use my knowledge and skills to help support others.
I value my connections to other people and supporting others with a kind, warm, and gentle approach. All of my personal and professional life experiences have led me down a path of supporting others as a career, and I am forever grateful for that opportunity. I am dedicated to providing people from all backgrounds with an emotionally safe environment to get support and guidance during times of loneliness, stress, sadness, or other hardships.
Therapeutic Approach
I approach counselling from a trauma-informed, multicultural, humanistic perspective that emphasizes relentless empathy, active listening, and unconditional positive regard. My aim is to create a safe environment where people can express, explore, and understand their emotions in a nonjudgemental setting and at a pace that is comfortable for them. By adopting a person-centered approach, I can meet clients where they are at and support them through their emotional journies. Above all else, I want the therapeutic space to be one of emotional safety and acceptance. I hope to create that with a warm and welcoming presence for all clients.
My primary therapeutic modalities include Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Person-Centered Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Narrative Therapy. With me as your counsellor, we can work together to heal attachment wounds, repair relationships and reconnect with loved ones, learn how to understand and regulate emotions, and co-create a new life story of resilience and healing.
