Youth Counselling

Adolescence can be a challenging and confusing time. It is a period of life marked with an intense search for one’s identity, rapid physical changes, desire for independence and a striving for belonging and connection. The complexities of this phase of life can bring about many changes in an adolescent’s interpersonal relationships with friends and families. Adolescents need to feel supported and understood as they adapt to and navigate their worlds of constant changes.

Adolescents of this generation are living in a world full of screens, distractions, and political unrest. The teens of today are becoming increasingly aware of the need for mental health support as they are faced with new hardships every day. While there may be an abundance of mental health resources available to teens online, the limitless benefits of a therapeutic relationship between a counsellor and an adolescent are unparalleled.

Adolescent counselling can provide the following benefits:

  •  Improved mood and overall well-being marked by an increase in energy, functioning, positive affect, and increased self-esteem

  •  Fewer depressive symptoms

  •  Improved social skills

  •  Development of positive coping skills and increased resilience

  •  Improved physiological health and positive youth development
