Background

Welcome! My name is Leanne and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), with a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from UBC. I work with clients who are dealing with issues related to anxiety, depression, workplace
stress, grief and loss, relationships, and life transitions.

I was born and raised in Vancouver and spent several years living and working in the Middle East. Living overseas enhanced my understanding of the world. In Vancouver, I have an extensive background as an educator, working with at-risk youth with complex mental health issues. This work inspired me to become a clinical counsellor and helped me see that personal change is possible. I have witnessed the power of resilience.

I am honoured to work as a counsellor, to help clients achieve their unique goals, despite the complex realities they may face. I am in awe of the vulnerability of clients as they engage in the counselling process.

When I’m not taking a counselling workshop, I can be found walking around the seawall, hanging out with my dog, or reading a novel.

Therapeutic Approach

As a counsellor, I know how important it is to treat clients with unconditional positive regard and authenticity. I help clients draw upon their personal strengths and resiliency to make the changes they’d like to see in their lives.

I work with individuals who are dealing with issues relates to anxiety and depression and are wanting to chart a new direction in life. Clients may feel stuck, wanting to gain a better understanding of patterns and self-limiting thoughts. Clients may not always be aware of the factors limiting their lives. I also work with individuals who are experiencing stressors related to life transitions and are dealing with unwanted feelings connected to societal expectations.

I draw upon a wide set of theoretical orientations and interventions to help clients achieve their unique goals. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Solution
Focused Therapy. My work is trauma informed and strength based. I bring an intersectional lens to my work. I understand the importance of the cultural context to the client.

My goal is to co-create a treatment plan that will help a client achieve their short term and ultimate goals. I will work to ensure that every step in the counselling journey is meaningful and makes sense to the client. My aim is to demystify the counselling process, making it accessible. I encourage my clients to ask questions to become active participants in the counselling process.

My availability can be found here.

be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not
weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.” - Brené Brown
