Sonja Korotana (she/her)

Background
Hi, I'm Sonja. For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to understanding people and the stories that shape who they are. Although I felt called to become a counsellor over a decade ago, I chose to first gain experience in the real world—working alongside people during some of the most difficult and transformative moments of their lives.
Over the past nine years, I've worked in frontline corrections and restorative justice programs in schools, supporting youth, individuals, and families as they navigated conflict, adversity, trauma, and personal growth. These experiences have shown me that behind every behaviour is a story, and that lasting change begins when people feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted without judgment.
Returning to counselling feels like coming home to the work I was always meant to do. I feel deeply honoured to sit with people during vulnerable moments and to provide a space where they can slow down, feel safe, and reconnect with themselves. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, stress, self-esteem, relationship challenges, life transitions, or the impact of past experiences, you don't have to navigate it alone.
I believe each person already holds the capacity for healing and growth. Sometimes we simply need someone to walk alongside us, helping us make sense of what feels overwhelming while rediscovering our own strengths.
Therapeutic Approach
My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in genuine human connection. I strive to create an environment where you can show up exactly as you are—without pressure to have everything figured out or fear of being judged.
I primarily draw from Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while integrating somatic awareness to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and body. Together, we'll explore the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that may be keeping you feeling stuck while building practical tools to help you move forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.
I believe therapy isn't about "fixing" who you are. It's about creating space for curiosity, self-discovery, and healing at a pace that feels right for you. Whether we're processing painful experiences, navigating uncertainty, strengthening relationships, or helping you reconnect with yourself, I'll be there to support you with compassion, authenticity, and care.
My hope is that you'll leave each session feeling heard, supported, and better equipped to face life's challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and confidence. Therapy can be one of the most meaningful investments you make in yourself, and I would be honoured to be part of that journey.
