What is a Discovery Session?
A discovery session is a brief, no-pressure conversation with one of our team members. It is not a counselling session, but it can help you get clearer on your needs, preferences, and next steps.
During the call, we can talk about:
-
What you’re hoping to work on in therapy
-
Whether you prefer in-person or virtual counselling
-
Your availability and budget
-
What kind of therapist you feel most comfortable with
-
Any questions you have about our services, fees, or approach
Who is this for?
A discovery session may be helpful if you:
-
Are new to therapy and unsure where to start
-
Want help choosing the right counsellor
-
Have questions before booking your first appointment
-
Are looking for support with anxiety, trauma, relationships, sex therapy, identity, or life transitions
-
Want to understand whether Avery Therapy Centre is the right fit for you
Your discovery session will be facilitated by Kyle, one of our intern therapists at Avery Therapy.
Kyle's role is to help make the process of finding a therapist feel easier and less overwhelming. During your conversation, he'll take the time to learn about what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and help connect you with a counsellor who may be a good fit for your unique needs and preferences.
As a member of our clinical team, Kyle has an understanding of their specialties, therapeutic approaches, and availability. This allows him to make thoughtful recommendations based on what you're looking for, whether that's support for anxiety, trauma, relationships, identity, sex therapy, or another area of concern.
Kyle is currently completing his clinical training and works under the supervision of Dr. Bruce Avery, our clinical director. Discovery sessions are warm, supportive, and completely judgment-free, offering a comfortable space to ask questions and explore your options before committing to therapy.
Please note that discovery sessions are not counselling sessions and do not involve therapeutic treatment. Their purpose is to help you determine whether Avery Therapy is the right fit for you and, if so, connect you with the therapist who best aligns with your goals.
What happens after the session?
After learning more about what you’re looking for, we can recommend a therapist from our team who may be a good fit. From there, you can choose whether you’d like to book an initial counselling session.
There is no obligation to continue.

The Avery Therapy Difference
Designed for Better Therapeutic Outcomes
At Avery Therapy, we take a more personalized approach to connecting clients with the right therapist. While many clinics simply provide a directory of counsellors and leave clients to navigate the process on their own, we believe finding the right fit is one of the most important factors in successful therapy.
Our team takes the time to understand your goals, preferences, concerns, and practical needs before recommending a therapist who may be well-suited to support you. We also prioritize ongoing professional development, clinical consultation, and evidence-based care, ensuring that our clients receive thoughtful, high-quality support. Our goal is not simply to help you find a therapist, but to help you find the right therapist.
