Jenny Wallace

Background

Hello and welcome! My name is Jenny (she/her), and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor at Avery Therapy.

Born and raised in Richmond, I feel fortunate to call Vancouver home. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Victoria and a Master of Counselling Psychology from Adler University. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked and volunteered in a variety of non-profit settings, supporting individuals facing diverse mental health challenges and life circumstances.

These experiences sparked a deep curiosity about how people heal, grow, and create meaningful change in their lives. While I have always been passionate about helping others, counselling offered me the opportunity to build deeper connections and support lasting transformation. It is a privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate challenges, discover new strengths, and move toward lives that feel more fulfilling and aligned with their values.

I work with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and welcome clients seeking support for a wide range of concerns. I have a particular passion for working with youth and young adults as they navigate identity development, relationships, academic and career pressures, life transitions, and mental health challenges.

Outside of the counselling room, you'll often find me spending time with family and friends, cuddling my dog Charlie, trying new recipes, or recharging through movies, books, and travel.

Therapeutic Approach

I believe that meaningful change begins with feeling truly seen, heard, and understood. My approach is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental, with a strong emphasis on creating a safe and supportive space where you can explore your experiences openly and authentically.

Together, we will work to better understand what you're going through, identify patterns that may no longer be serving you, and build practical tools to help you navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and clarity. Whether you're facing a specific concern or feeling stuck and unsure of where to begin, I strive to meet you where you are and move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I recognize that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to take that first step.

My work is primarily informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy, while also integrating elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to your unique needs, goals, values, and experiences.

I believe that you are the expert in your own life and that every person has the capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change. While our past experiences can shape us, they do not have to define our future. Depending on your goals, our work together may involve exploring relationship patterns, processing difficult experiences, developing emotional awareness, challenging unhelpful thoughts, strengthening self-compassion, or building practical coping strategies to support your well-being.

Finding the right counsellor can feel overwhelming, and I'm glad you're taking the time to invest in yourself and your mental health. If you think we may be a good fit, I invite you to reach out for a free consultation. I look forward to connecting with you and supporting you on your journey.
