Daniel Palmer

Background

My name is Daniel Palmer, and I'm an intern counsellor currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I come to counselling with a professional background in corporate communications, having supported senior leaders and teams at large multinational companies in high-pressure environments. Over time, I became increasingly interested in the human side of performance and responsibility—how stress accumulates, how people cope when they feel they can’t slow down, and how the pressure of work environments can quietly shape self-worth, mood, and relationships.

My counselling journey is guided by a long-standing interest in the unconscious—how patterns form outside of awareness, and how early family experiences can shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. My father also helped inform my understanding of psychotherapy through his own practice working with medical professionals for more than 25 years.

Therapeutic Approach

My approach to counselling is warm, collaborative, and grounded in creating a safe and confidential space where you can reveal truths without fear of judgment. Perhaps you're reaching out after spending a long time managing distress in silence. I aim to make room for you to slow down, reflect, and develop a clearer understanding of what you’re experiencing—emotionally, relationally, and in the broader context of your life. Psychodynamic modalities have been especially meaningful for me personally, and I’ve found that kind of depth-oriented work to be among the most enriching approaches as a client. That perspective continues to influence how I listen in the room, particularly when a concern seems to repeat across relationships, work, or life transitions in ways that don’t fully make sense on the surface.

I have a personal interest in supporting parents of neurodivergent children who are carrying sustained mental and emotional load, navigating advocacy and systems, and experiencing burnout or compassion fatigue. Additionally, I offer support to individuals and couples with intimacy-related concerns, with an emphasis on reducing shame and strengthening communication. My goal is to provide a steady space where clients can feel more grounded, understood, and less alone as they move through a demanding season of life.
