Celine Lee

Background
Hi, I’m Celine (she/her), and I’m an Intern Counsellor at Avery Therapy Centre. I have been interested in counselling and psychology since I was a kid, but I explored different fields before making my way back to this. I studied biology at Queen’s University and then worked on the natural resources teams of different First Nations. This led to roles in environmental consulting and Indigenous relations. What I realized during this time was how much I enjoyed hearing people’s stories and seeking to understand them at a deeper level. With this in mind, I started volunteering at a crisis centre and shifted my focus to helping people move through the confusing and heavy parts of life.
I was born and raised in Vancouver in the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. I love the ocean and forest and mountains, and these have been sources of calm and inspiration throughout my life. Art, music, and movement also nourish my spirit. On a free day, I can be found practicing indie covers or going to dance classes. I have also had experiences confronting big and painful emotions, so I know how helpful it can be to lean on someone during these times. I am so grateful to the people who have supported me, and I would be honoured to be there for you.
Therapeutic Approach
I believe that you have everything that it takes to withstand adversity and create a full and meaningful life. This is balanced with recognition of the broader cultural and social forces that shape our realities. It is completely understandable to feel stuck, not know what to do, or simply need a break from it all. My aim is to offer a sense of safety and care to help untangle what’s in your way and figure out the next steps to take. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, self-doubt, trauma, relationship challenges, or other issues, we can face these together.
My practice is person-centred and strengths-based, meaning that we will collaboratively explore your needs, values, and strengths. During our first sessions, I would like to start learning more about you and what brings you to counselling. From there, we can build a plan for meeting your goals. It may be helpful to learn new ways of approaching thoughts and feelings, so cognitive or somatic techniques can also be brought into sessions. I am committed to helping you find ways that work for you to feel better and brighter. I look forward to meeting you!
