Background
Hello! I’m Ana (she/her), an intern counsellor at Avery Therapy. I consider myself a citizen of the world. Ethnically Korean, I was born in Kazakhstan (a former Soviet republic), have lived in three countries, traveled to many more, and have proudly called Vancouver home since 2006. I am fluent in English and Russian. I am also a co-parent, partner, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and mentor - roles that deeply shape how I show up in relationship. My core values are authenticity, curiosity, and growth. I believe in owning my story, continually learning and unlearning, embracing the present, and moving toward the future with intention. I am passionate about creating a space where others can do the same by feeling seen, respected, and empowered in their unique journeys.
Prior to counselling, I first walked this path as a client, choosing to live with greater purpose and awareness. My lived experiences, including cultural oppression, immigration, divorce, single parenting, and significant career transitions, have profoundly shaped both my resilience and compassion. Professionally, I bring 25 years of experience in corporate setting spanning multiple industries and roles. I hold an MBA from the University of British Columbia, and I am a certified life coach and Prosci® Certified Change Practitioner. Throughout my career in business, coaching, and mentorship, I have supported individuals and teams in embracing their identities and navigating change with clarity, courage, and authenticity. I look forward to supporting you on your journey.
Therapeutic Approach
All of your experiences, joyful and difficult, have shaped who you are and brought you to this moment – here and now. I would be honored to walk alongside you as a compassionate and trusted companion on your path toward healing and growth. As a counsellor, certified coach, and change practitioner, I believe deeply in your inherent strengths, resilience, and wisdom. You are the expert in your life; and my role is to create a safe, collaborative space where your story can unfold with care and curiosity. Together, we will clarify what matters most to you and uncover your own best way forward, the one that feels authentic, sustainable, and aligned with your values.
My approach is integrative, grounded in humanistic and person-centered principles, I am particularly energized by narrative, solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and acceptance and commitment therapies. I hold unconditional positive regard while inviting exploration of the stories that shape your identity and the possibilities that invite change. I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals, couples, and families navigating transitions such as career changes, separation and divorce, dating after divorce, parenting, and intergenerational experiences of immigration and acculturation. As a woman of color, immigrant, and proud parent, I am especially attuned to the complexities of bicultural identity and identity revision. Whether you are facing uncertainty, rebuilding after loss, or seeking greater clarity, I am committed to helping you move through change with courage, self-compassion, and hope.
