Vineeta Prasad

Background

My name is Vineeta Prasad (She/her) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor. My journey to developing a passion for supporting my community came from personal and professional experiences. Throughout my journey of being a woman of color and child in an immigrant family, I have navigated many unique and at times, challenging experiences. From childhood to early adulthood, I experienced anxiety which had a strong influence on how I made decisions and experienced life events. Through educational resources and leaning into community to heal, I have been able to manage my anxiety. There were times where the qualities about me felt like a weakness, but I now consider them a strength that provides me the opportunity to support my community and others who might be experiencing similar circumstances.

I have been able to practice and refine skills to support since 2016 as a community services worker. By working directly with the community, I have learned to create a deep sense of compassion and empathy for individuals with a variety of lived experiences. Working in community services roles inspired me to add on to my education in sociology and family studies to provide more impactful services, such as counselling. I am grateful everyday to have made this big and brave decision and I am continuously inspired by the clients I work with.

Therapeutic Approach

It is my goal to support clients with feeling empowered and hopeful to navigate their personal journeys. I do so by offering opportunities to collaborate with the client to create a counselling experience that is impactful and relatable to each individual. I believe that counselling is not a one size fits all approach and through building a trusting therapeutic relationship, reflective insight and accessible coping tools can be discovered that reflects the uniqueness and diversity of the client’s life outside of sessions.

In counselling sessions, I draw on a hybrid approach to best suit the clients needs and interests. In sessions, I aim to provide an environment that is compassionate and affirming with a person-centred and trauma aware lens, while drawing on therapeutic tools from mindfulness and somatic therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and trauma psychoeducation. As the counselling process continues to progress, clients will be able to feel supported in exploring their life experiences and the process of releasing  and understanding to cultivate space for self-expression and joy.
