Vineeta Prasad

Background

My name is Vineeta Prasad (she/her) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor at Avery Therapy Centre. As a woman of colour and a child of immigrants, I am familiar with societal and cultural pressures that leave you feeling never good enough. I experienced anxiety throughout my childhood and adulthood, believing that I didn't belong in a fast-paced world that is always on the move. I longed for a world that valued kindness and care over productivity. So, I started my helping career by first working as a community services worker in 2016. My work experience, education, and the community I discovered helped me learn how to manage my anxiety. I am now here at Avery Therapy Centre to help clients do the same.

My experience as a community services worker taught me how to help people who feel lost and struggle with self-esteem gain a sense of belonging. I became a counsellor to offer those who feel alone a place in the world by exuding empathy and a calming energy.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach comes from Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioural, and Mindfulness theories. I often work with adult children of immigrant parents, those struggling with anxiety,  trauma, and clients new to therapy. Therapy can appear intimidating and unknown. I spend individualized time with all my clients to create a trusting environment. Whether you're new to therapy or a regular on the couch, you can expect to be welcomed with kindness, acceptance, and openness. I will offer you choices to help you gain a sense of direction if you're not sure where to begin. We will form a collaborative healing journey that will bring you a sense of self-compassion. My hope as a counsellor is to give you an everlasting toolbox to help you manage your emotions and find your identity.

"Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.”
