My name is Rosalyn Stewart and I have over 10 years of experience working with a broad spectrum of personalities, ages, and issues. I help individuals discover and activate their own wisdom and resources so that they can move forward with greater clarity and confidence in their lives. I am passionately committed to my life’s work as a counsellor and I am honoured to be a part of your unique change process. My interest in counselling is rooted in my own exploration of what it means to thrive rather than just survive in my life. My approach is firmly
rooted in the neurobiology of attachment and mindfulness based cognitive behavioural approaches, such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
I grew up in Vancouver but lived overseas for 6 years, primarily in Spain, where I taught English. The experience of living in a different culture and learning a new language has enriched my life in numerous ways. Other enriching experiences include being a mother to my 22 year old daughter, writing poetry, working in palliative care and participating in several 10 day silent meditation retreats. I am a nature lover, dog mom, avid swimmer and have a serious thing for 19th century literature, especially Russian and French.
I went back to school later in life to obtain my Master’s in Counselling, many years after receiving my Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from UBC. My daughter was a toddler at the time and I was going through a divorce. During this time I experienced the importance of self-regulation, self care, how to encourage myself to keep going to the finish line, and how to start again from there.
My approach is firmly rooted in the neurobiology of attachment and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural approaches, such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy. I also draw from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focussed Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Existential Therapy. I tailor my interventions to the needs of the client in the moment and I am creative and collaborative in my helping style.
I have learned that the therapeutic relationship itself is paramount to helping clients identify and utilize their unique strengths, experience more fulfilling relationships and develop more satisfying lives. I pay close attention to the quality of our interaction and I strive to create a space of warmth and support where you can begin to ease the burden of carrying your struggles alone.
During our sessions I will encourage you to stay present with thoughts and feelings as they arise in the moment. Within an environment of validation and compassionate care you will begin to understand and regulate your emotions so that you can chose behaviours based on your values rather than on your fears.
Good counselling serves as a constructive conversation with ourselves, the empathic and active presence of the therapist enables us to connect with ourselves in ways which can be too daunting to do alone. To be seen and heard in areas we have kept hidden from others or tried to hide from ourselves is a vital part of the healing process. From here we will identify the resources that are available right now within yourself and your current environment and we will work together to find new resources for growth and healing.

your deepest pain and deepest feelings with another human being. This is one of the most profound experiences we can have” -Bessel Van De Kolk
